India vs New Zealand - Live 1st T20 Star Sports and Ten Cricket match Live in New Zealand NZ vs IND
What went wrong for India in the first T20? Here is Sportskeeda's Cricket Corner...
That's it from us at Wellington today. Do join us on Friday at 11:30 IST for the second T20I at Auckland.
Kane Williamson: Fantastic performance all around. One of those complete performances you search for. (Tim) Seifert was excellent. The bowling performance was outstanding. We had runs on the board but bowling and fielding were outstanding. (When asked about New Zealand women's victory) it was a great game. Throughout the series, the two teams have followed a similar trend. Hopefully, they can do that in the next game and we can follow it up.
Rohit Sharma: We were outplayed in all three departments actually. We always knew 200 is not going to be an easy chase. We kept losing wickets and that kept throwing us out of the game. We have chased 200 targets in the past. But when you don't have a good partnership while chasing big totals, it's always difficult. Us as a team we have chased down the targets which is what we like to do, that's why we are playing with eight batsman. We needed that one big partnership which we failed to do.
Player of the Match Tim Seifert: It was a great way to start the series and the boys are really happy. It feels great to go up the order, look at the first two overs and then go from there and put pressure on the bowlers. I have been selected for a reason and it feels nice to have backed my ability.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl, India began horridly as Tim Seifert and Colin Munro took the attack to their new-ball bowlers. Seifert led the charge as New Zealand amassed 219 from their 20 overs. In reply, India never really got going. They lost wickets at regular intervals and eventually ended up falling short by 80 runs.
India against New Zealand in T20Is: Two wins and Seven losses. In New Zealand soil, India have lost all three T20Is so far.
On Waitangi Day (New Zealand's National Day), the New Zealand women's as well as men's teams have given the country plenty to cheer with clinical victories in their respective matches against India.
It's all over! Daryl Mitchell castles Chahal and completes a comprehensive victory for New Zealand. This is India's worst loss in T20Is. They have gone down by 80 runs.
