MATCH PREVIEW
WEST INDIES
West Indies put in a much-improved bowling performance in the previous match. Not only did they knock the openers over early but they also kept a much tighter leash on the scoring. As a result, Ireland could only get 147 from its 20 overs.
Sheldon Cottrell picked up two wickets and gave just ten runs in his four overs while Kieron Pollard picked up four wickets to be the standout performer in the bowling stint.
The West Indian batsmen did not get much of a chance to show what they were capable of but they seemed to be very aggressive in the short time that they did bat. With a star-studded batting lineup filled with six-hitters throughout, we think the West Indian batsmen can afford to play with freedom as they try to maximize their resources.
The West Indians have dependable batting till number eight and they are not going to be out-batted by Ireland too many times. The test for the bowlers is going to be building on the good work they did in the second match.
IRELAND
Ireland may not have set the world alight with its batting in the second T20 but it showed enough to warrant some serious consideration. We know that Paul Stirling, Kevin O’Brien, and Andrew Balbirnie can bat well but the emergence of Gareth Delany and Harry Tector is the biggest plus that Ireland will take back from this series.
Delany smashed five sixes in his stay at the crease and showed that Ireland is not going to take a step back. This change in approach is very refreshing to see and promises to serve Ireland well in the future.
Ireland’s bowling is always a concern. The team has to rely on some smart strategies to try and cover for its bowling deficiencies. Players like Paul Stirling and Kevin O’Brien try and slip in an over or two so that the bowlers can get some cushion.
Joshua Little, Simi Singh, George Dockrell, Barry McCarthy, and Craig Young were the bowlers who played the previous match.
