MATCH PREVIEW
AUCKLAND ACES
Unlike their opponents in this match, the Auckland Aces are roaring into the Elimination Final with some serious momentum. The Aces have won three out of their last four matches and seem to be peaking at just the right time.
It is also hard to look past their star-studded batting lineup with names like Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, and Craig Cachopa.
The big names at the top may get all the attention but the middle-order is not one to be taken lightly either. It was the pair of Chapman and Cachopa that top-scored in the previous match and ended up helping the Auckland side to a win.
The experience of playing and winning knockout matches is invaluable and that is exactly what the senior international players have. The Auckland Aces batting is certainly leaps and bounds ahead of the Otago Volts.
Mitchell McClenaghan and Kyle Jamieson are going to be leading the pace attack with Will Somerville as the lead spin-bowling option. Then there are useful bowlers like Ronnie Hira, Mark Chapman, and Colin Munro, all of whom can contribute at different stages of the match.
The Auckland Aces have a well-balanced side and even though their bowling is not the strongest, there is still enough variety in it to keep the opposition under control.
OTAGO VOLTS
The Otago Volts had a great opportunity to try and top the Super Smash 2019-20 League table by winning their previous match. Unfortunately, they stumbled against the Canterbury Kings and now have to face this sudden death contest against the Auckland Aces.
With three losses in the previous four games, the Otago Volts have lost momentum in the final stages of the Super Smash and will be hoping to regain their best form in this match.
The success of the Otago Volts was based on the batting performances of Neil Broom and Hamish Rutherford to a large extent. Nick Kelly also scored 62 in the previous match and is in good touch but one of the two openers has to get a big score otherwise the Otago volts are going to struggle.
The middle-order of the side is composed of some fine all-round players like Anaru Kitchen, Josh Finnie, Dean Foxtrot, and Michael Rippon.
Jacob Duffy is the captain of the Otago Volts and also its most successful bowler. He knows he has a tough task ahead of him trying to contain an Auckland Aces side that is loaded with batting firepower. Michael Rae and Anaru Kitchen are perhaps the two other leading bowlers after Jacob Duffy in this side.
The Otago Volts have proven that they are more than the sum of their parts but their recent loss of form does not make us very confident about their chances.
