While Sydney Thunder are placed at the sixth spot on the ladder, the difference between the and Perth Scorchers, who are placed at the third spot, is of just one point. A win here for the Thunder will push them to the third spot and that is exactly what they will be aiming for against the Renegades.
Sydney Thunder had a pretty good start to the tournament, but they now seem to have lost pace with a few defeats in their last few matches. Even though they are coming off a win in their previous match, their performance in the last four has been far from satisfactory. They lost to Melbourne Stars twice and Brisbane Heat once in the last four matches.
Against Hobart Hurricanes, in their most recent encounters, the Thunder looked pumped and did pretty well. After Usman Khawaja and Alex Hales got them off to a terrific start to their chase of 162, they lost the way in the middle overs. Thunders slid from 96 for no-loss to 118 for 4 and that allowed Hobart Hurricanes a bit of a sniff. With wickets falling all-around him, Alex Ross, however, kept his nerve in the death overs to guide his team to a much-needed win.
Earlier with the ball, the likes of Chris Morris, Daniel Sams, and Brendan Doggett did exceedingly well to keep Hurricanes to an under-par total. Daniel Sams was the pick of their bowlers and returned with exciting figures of 29 for 2 in his four overs.

MELBOURNE RENEGADES
Quite surprisingly, Melbourne Renegades are the team with the highest aggregate of runs scored, yet they have failed to win even one match in the tournament so far. In the nine matches they have played so far, the Renegades have won zero and have a net run-rate of -0.789.
While the Renegades came close to getting a success on multiple occasions, they always ended up short. In their last match, however, the story was altogether different as the Renegades lost the match by a massive margin of 63 runs. Chasing a total of 173 against the Strikers, none of their batsmen looked settled, let alone scoring runs, as they skittled out for just 110.
In the tournament so far, they have relied heavily on the likes of Shaun Marsh, Sam Harper, and Aaron Finch. While Finch has left for India to captain the Australian side, the other two have failed to fire. Barring Beau Webster, who scored 49 off 33 deliveries, only Shaun Marsh managed to score in double figures.
Earlier with the ball, their bowlers did reasonably well to keep Adelaide Strikers to 173. The Strikers got off to a superb start and were eyeing a bigger total than they actually got at the end. Barring Joe Mennie and Jack Wildermuth, all of their bowlers bowled pretty well. Their spinners were mighty effective in all stages of the game and a lot will once again depend on them against the potent batting side of Sydney Sixers.
